Summary: Yukihiro's thoughts on a city that holds a past that doesn't belong to him;

A city not his own

Yukihiro doesn't like Osaka.

It's not rational, but whenever they come to the city on tour, old insecurities flare up and thus each time he travels from his hotel room to the venue (and he's the only one of them four staying in a hotel here) he tries not to look around too much out he car windows. He'd much rather try to pretend he's actually still in old and painfully familiar Tokyo.

This city is where the band's history is grounded. Where the members feel like they're returning home when they plan Tour finals to be here. But it is history that the drummer doesn't share with them, and though he knows he can keep a second residence here too, just like the others, considering how often the band's path seems to lead here, he chooses not to. Gods know he has the money, but every time he considers it again, he assumes everyone would probably think he was simply trying too hard.

It is not like he thinks he still doesn't fit in here though. No, he has found his place in the band years ago already, almost immediately after he was welcomed into it - warmly and slightly desperately, like a saviour. It is just that Osaka symbolizes to him the things that are already in the past and that he cannot start reminiscing about together with the others. The things which when they get asked about in music shows, make Yukihiro feel glad no one is expecting him to talk much in general already anyway, thus making his suddenly very uncomfortable silence unnoticeable.

"Yukki, you have plans for the evening?" Hyde suddenly asks while they're getting ready to leave after the day's rehearsal and the drummer immediately raises an eyebrow in question, "Remember when I dragged you out to eat last time and we've stumbled upon that place with the really great gyoza? Ken asked me to show it to him, but I don't actually remember where it was, so I thought..."

A chuckle from the very guitarist who was just mentioned made them both turn to the taller man.

"A little ironic, you asking Yukki for directions in Osaka, don't you think, Hydee?" the smiling man points out and the singer frowns, trying to think up something in his defense.

"He was drunk," Yukihiro explains not really helpfully, actually poking out his tongue at the vocalist once the small man turns to glare at him as if betrayed.

"I'm starting to doubt lately whether all of those Hyde's attempts to feed you are out of honest worry," Tetsuya speaks up from a few steps away, where he has been listening in on the conversation while packing up his stuff. "Maybe he just uses this as an excuse to drag you out with him while he gets drunk so he has someone to take care of him in case he drinks too much..."

"Hey!.." the tiny man protests at the acccusation, looking insulted (or at least pretending to be), but gets completely ignored.

"I don't mind if he does," the skinny man laughs over him instead, and smiles at Ken, "I remember where it is, we can go."

"Well, in that case," the bassist interrupts slightly again as he already has all his things in his bag and grabs his jacket to quickly throw it over his shoulders, "I would like to point out I like good gyoza too, and would be delighted to join in, thank you all for such persuading invitations. Someone has to make sure that Hyde is making sure that Yukihiro-kun is eating after all," he claims seriously, and it's such a small thing but the drummer is smiling one of his most brilliant smiles again as they leave in a group - a rare occurrence in on itself.

No, Yukihiro truly doesn't like coming here. But he has already accepted the city as an inevitability, much like the fact that he sometimes has to play songs that were recorded before his time in L'Arc~en~Ciel. And just like he deals with that by making those songs more his by colouring them with his own unique style of drumming, giving them some new life with new beats, he also tries to write himself into the history Osaka holds for his bandmates. Not by replacing the old one, that's impossible, but just making sure that when someone mentions the of the city, the memories that come into their minds sometimes include him as well.

And maybe it's just his own imagination, but it seems to him that the city welcomes him more and more as its own with every time he comes here.

Aw, thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed it ^_^

And yes, I think he might feel like that in reality sometimes as well. Hopefully, though, the others do good in distracting him then or making him forget such things XD
