Pairings: none

Disclaimer
: I don't own them.

Summary: Tetsuya gets introspective.
Note: the time line for this is supposed to jump around a bit and the fluctuation between the usage of Tetsu and Tetsuya is intentional

Making sense of it

Things like this happen without a reason - or at least not one that they know or want to know. The most practical explanation would be friendship, maybe with a dash of longing and loneliness and topped off with boredom, but that sounds too simple and doesn't really explain the depth of it. Or maybe the shallowness of it. Tetsuya has long since stopped trying to put a name on what they felt about it all. It had always been a part of the dynamics between them and there doesn't seem to be a necessity to call it anything. What he does know is that happenings like these are what shapes the relationships between them, define the way they care about each other (not the fact that they care - that had long since been a given).

These things happen without warning. There was one time that it happened in the middle of a conversation with Nishikawa-kun: Tetsu just stood up with a wide-eyed look on his face and blurted out that he remembered something important he had to do. He then spent three hours at Yukki's home in the drummer's studio, with the thinner-than-should-be-humanly-possible man putting away the mixing work he had been doing in favor of goofing off with the bassist and teaching him drumming. Some people say that bashing the life out of drums is usually done for anger management, but Tetsu hadn't been angry at anything at the time. He had fun though. He felt a little guilty for lying to Nishikawa-kun and turning up without any warning to bother Yukki when he was working, but work suddenly seemed so overrated when compared to doing absolutely nothing productive.

It is different for each member, each possible combination introducing a different layer and flavor to it all. Although there are things that are similar to constants - like the gratitude they all still feel towards Yukki, even after all these years have passed and they should have long since stopped looking at him like he was their miraculous saviour. There's also the need to try and feed him normal food every once in a while (or actually, whenever possible). And a wish to indulge and spoil him, by giving chocolate on every opportunity. It's unhealthy and should not be encouraged, but all of them have long since learned that milk chocolate is what's prefered at all times, dark chocolate is only good if it's a really good brand and if white chocolate is all that's available, it's better to just buy coke instead.

Sometimes, it happens at possibly the worst possible timing. Like the time when Tetsu had to spend an hour killing time by throwing paper airplanes (made out of lyrics sheets and song setlists and what turned out to be the only copy of only half written song that Tetsu later got told off by Ken about) backstage of a live-house, waiting for Ken to be finished with his live so he could drag the lanky man off. Ken's solo band's members had been confused enough that they didn't utter one word of protest at their leader's not coming to the after party. The two old friends spent the night roaming around the city (on foot!), tried out three different ramen places and made fools out of themselves in a karaoke bar. There was also a dangerous almost-run-in with rabid looking fangirls that they luckily managed to avoid just in time. Next morning, they were both horribly hungover and Ken had another live to get ready for.

Ken is the one that got it up to perfection first. He is, after all, the most naturally surprising person of them four, and turning up unannounced and unexpected to visit comes as a second nature to him. And yet, surprising as he was, he is also someone they know they can rely on to solve a problem at a most critical time. Rough and uncouth, always smelling of tabaco and telling dirty jokes, he is loved by other members like a favorite Teddy Bear - huggable, gentle and the one you turn to when you can't fall asleep at night. Tetsuya sometimes doesn't know what they give to the tall man in return for it all, but then he would notice the way the guitarist keeps them to himself like a family and he realizes that they are his family (they are each other's family) and that was enough of a thank you.

Often times, it was Hyde that visited Tetsu and not the other way around (Tetsu sometimes wondered if Hyde wasn't just sensitive enough to know when he needed his company even before the leader knew it himself). He'd come when Tetsu was deep in conversation with a business contact or two and fidget for a while just inside Tetsu's line of sight, so that the bassist would know to let his creative juices flow and think up excuses of why exactly did he need to leave in the middle of conversation when there were album's song list's fonts to be discussed and decided upon. But Tetsu was good at getting himself out of even the most important conversation just so he could follow Hyde for a trip to, say, an all-you-can-eat cake buffet. Those were always occupied by females and men coming there not in a company of one were stared at, but they somehow managed to avoid it. Tetsu said that after all those years hiding from paparazzi and fans they must have learned how to turn virtually invisible.

Hyde is not a woman. Even nowadays, people sometimes jokingly comment that he is the perfect girlfriend to all of them. And they jokingly repeat that because it is funny the way the smallest of them would get all flustered and threaten to never make them his delicious curry again. But none of them actually think him to be anything but a very strong and independent and very male individual. It does not stop them from trying to protect him and shelter him though - because there is an aura about him that always draws attention, not necessarily of the good kind, and the vocalist is just so kind and helpful and giving to everyone... He shows most of his kindness to them though, and they answer with their own. Hyde is not a woman, and he is not some delicate flower, but he sometimes needs as much care as one of those if he's to bloom in fullness. And they are more than happy to provide it.

Other times, it managed to surprise Tetsuya himself. The most prominent example of that was when he came home to see his bandmates about to ring his doorbell - the three men apparently had the same idea at the same time of re-watching Evangelion with Tetsuya while eating mint-flavored ice cream. While watching Evangelion was always welcome, it did make Tetsuya wonder about their choice of ice-cream, seeing as all four of them hated that particular flavor. He didn't say a word about it, even when one of the cold desert containers turned out to actually hold a particularly nasty mint-wasabi mix that they ate while grimacing in almost-pain.

Tetsuya is... He guessed he is a pretty typical leader. He is respected and he respects in return. He gives his band members enough freedom for their talents to thrive and he only makes restrictions to keep them out of trouble when it is absolutely necessary. He is the one to encourage, but also the one to need encouragement the most when he can allow himself to wait for some. He would be the first one to cry when pressure became too much and then be cheered up by the other men so he could then keep their spirits up when they started crumbling under the same pressure a little bit later. Tetsuya is both the strongest and the weakest of them four, but he is those things at exactly the best suited times to give them all a turn to shine.

Always, it is a part of what they are and of what there exists between them. And every time they meet, that is only reaffirmed.

L'Arc~en~Ciel is the thing that brought them together, and they loved it and will love it forever. But L'Arc~en~Ciel is no longer what's holding them together. They're holding together all by themselves.

This is so deep and cute at the same time ^^ The essence of each member is so adorable, Yuki spoiled with chocolate, Ken the teddy bear, Hyde the... male flower? and Tecchan the strongest-weakest fearless leader XD

It reminds me of the Laruku foursome smut I read yesterday (not in the smut sense, though XD) because of the attention paid to all the band members.

L'Arc~en~Ciel is the thing that brought them together, and they loved it and will love it forever. But L'Arc~en~Ciel is no longer what's holding them together. They're holding together all by themselves. ---->WIN. Viva Laruku!

Lots of love from me, rad-chan! (is it okay to call you that :D?)
